Communion
Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month, with additional opportunities offered at special times of the year. The congregation is served in the pews by deacons and deaconesses and presided over by the pastors. At PRCC, the communion table is “open to all Christians who wish to know the presence of Christ and share in the community of God’s people.” (Book of Worship) You need not be a member of our church or of any church to participate. Home or hospital communion is available upon request of one of our pastors.
At PRCC, parents are encouraged to decide whether their children are able to receive communion. We offer a class “Holy Communion” which is a three-week class which helps to prepare 2nd graders for their first communion. All are welcome to take communion at our church regardless of age, but this is a nice way to help teach kids about the meaning behind the sacrament. We attempt to schedule this class so that it aligns with Maundy Thursday for their first communion. A more in-depth discussion occurs during our Confirmation program, which is offered for young people in sixth through eighth grade. Visit Christian Education for more information.
Some parents choose to have their children take communion from a very early age. Others opt to wait until their children have completed the Sacraments Workshop or have received Confirmation.
