Deacons/Deaconesses
Deacons and Deaconesses are responsible for preparing and serving communion whether by intinction or in the pews. Communion is served the first Sunday of the month. Duties may include the purchase of supplies (bread and juice), set up of trays and chalices from which communion is served, and clean up following the church service.
Each deacon or deaconess will serve communion six times during the calendar year. If unable to serve on the assigned date, the deacon or deaconess is responsible to find his or her own substitute.
In addition, deacons and deaconesses provide office duty in the church office on the day of his or her assigned service, secure lectors for church services, and assist with baptisms.
Deacons host an annual golf outing, prepare and serve Confirmation breakfast, and cook barbeque for Rally Sunday. Deaconesses may be called upon to prepare and serve food for memorial receptions, prepare and serve a continental breakfast on Rally Sunday, and prepare Christmas cookies for shut-ins during the holidays.
For further information and/or to inquire about becoming a deacon/deaconess, please contact the deacon or deaconess chairperson.
