“Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none; and whoever has food must do likewise.” Luke:3-11
CORONA VIRUS UPDATE
LPCS has recently reopened to volunteer meal assistance. Since the pandemic began, they had requested that all food coming into the facility be from certified kitchens. We were able, with the support of Sunrise Grill, to send nutritious meals to the shelter from April through August. Now that they are opening up, while we won’t be going in to serve the dinners, we will be able to deliver home cooked meals to the shelter. PRCC remains closed for the foreseeable future, so we’re hoping that a few our members would be willing to cook various parts of the meals from their homes. The number of residents has lessened to accommodate social distancing, so we will be preparing dinner for approximately 25. We need individuals/families to prepare either a salad, a vegetable, a starch, a meat entree, or a dessert for the September 3rd or October 1st dinners.
LPCS has Each month volunteers plan a menu, purchase food, and prepare and serve dinner for about 40 people residing at Lincoln Park Community Services on the first Thursday of the month. Food is prepared in the church kitchen on Thursday afternoons.
Additionally, volunteers gather in groups of 4-6 to transport the meals and serve the residents on Thursday evenings. Volunteers are encouraged to eat with the guests if time allows. After serving the meal, volunteers assist with clean-up.
This is a great service project for groups of 4-6 people.
LPCS is a comprehensive social service agency serving adult men and women who are experiencing homelessness, providing interim housing, meals, and a targeted array of services to over 300 people each year.. The Interim Housing Program houses up to 35 guests each night year-round.
In addition to meals and safe living space, the Interim Housing Program provides storage space, showers, and laundry facilities for guests. The average length of stay is seven weeks, although there is no time limit providing guests make progress toward their goals.
